One of Xawery Wolski’s most extensive spatial works, Clouds transforms a changeable and ephemeral natural phenomenon into a lasting and recognizable form. The artist draws attention to the ways in which nature is ordered and transformed by the human imagination. Created in 2006 for Wolski’s solo exhibition at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, Clouds takes on a new context at Hala Koszyki, where its lightweight synthetic form engages in a dialogue with the historic architecture.

Xawery Wolski was born in Warsaw on August 20, 1960. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture, the École Supérieure d’Art in Aix-en-Provence, and the Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques in Paris.

In his artistic practice, Wolski explores matter’s capacity to resist transience and reflects on the ways in which time operates. He shapes matter so that it transcends itself through poetic images, metaphors, and forms. His work spans a broad range of media, including sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, textiles, and photography.
